A Christmas Miracle: 142 Negrosanons Receive Life-Changing Surgeries, Thanks to Negros Power and World Surgical Foundation Philippines

The atmosphere in Valladolid District Hospital was charged with anticipation, a blend of nervous excitement and quiet hope. It wasn’t only the Christmas season that stirred a sense of wonder, but also the promise of healing and a chance for a brighter future for 142 Negrosanons.

In a heartening display of community solidarity, Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) teamed up with the World Surgical Foundation Philippines to organize a transformative surgical mission. From December 9 to 13, a dedicated team of nearly 60 medical professionals from Manila, Cebu, and local Negros chapters converged on the hospital, turning it into a hub of hope. For five days, they offered free surgeries, bringing life-changing medical care to those who needed it most.

“For 30 years, I’ve lived with this goiter, unable to afford surgery,” shared Elsie Espante, one of the patients, her voice trembling with gratitude. “I am so thankful. This is a Christmas miracle.”

Elsie’s story is just one of many that unfolded within the hospital’s walls. Each patient carried their burden of pain and hardship, their lives limited by insurmountable ailments. But through the generosity of Negros Power and the dedication of the World Surgical Foundation Philippines team, hope was rekindled.

“It’s heartwarming to see so many people come together to help those in need,” said Kristelle Pascual, Executive Director of the World Surgical Foundation Philippines. “We are deeply grateful to Negros Power for their unwavering support. They have truly embraced our mission to bring healing and hope to communities across the Philippines.”

The Christmas season is a time for reflection, a moment to remember the true essence of giving and compassion. The surgical mission in Valladolid embodied this spirit powerfully, serving as a testament to the strength of human connection and the capacity of individuals and organizations to truly impact the lives of others.

The smiles on the faces of the patients as they left the hospital, their bodies lighter and their spirits brighter, were a testament to the mission’s success. It was a Christmas miracle, a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, hope can bloom, and lives can be transformed.
